SBLMNL,

I'm glad you are talking to your doctor about your condition. I also agree with your doctor that your excessive sweating and blushing/flushing is likely related to your hormone treatment. At least, it may be exasperating a genetic form of hyperhydrosis.

Here's an article I found on testosterone treatment:

www.cancerbacup.org.uk/Ca...onetherapy

Here's a quote from the article:

"In about half the men who have drug hormonal therapies the side effect which causes the greatest problem is hot flushes and sweating. Flushes do stop if the treatment is stopped. In the meantime some medicines can help."

I don't see how your other operation could have damaged any nerves. If you have been reading ETS advertisements you may have been left with the impression that hyperhidrosis is caused by some "overactive" nerve in your chest. This is not true.

ETS is supposed to be used only in cases of what is called "essential" or "primary" hyperhidrosis. This is hyperhidrosis that is genetic, the cause is unknown and is not related to any disease or hormone imbalances. ETS should never be used when the HH is caused by some other disease or treatment. The surgery just treats the symptoms in a drastic and irreversible way. The surgery does not treat the cause.

Although the doctors don't know what causes essential hyperhidrosis, they do know that if you destroy the nerves that carry the sweating signals from the brain to the sweat glands, you won't be able to sweat in the regions where the nerves are destroyed. ETS is a "shoot the messenger" approach to the problem.

Unfortunately, the body doesn't like to have large areas (particularly the head) that are incapable of sweating since that is the way the body cools itself. The body tries to compensate by sweating more on the rest of the body (CS). The other drawback is that the nerves destroyed also carry signals to the heart, lungs and muscles in the blood vessels. You can't destroy just the sweating fibers.

Anyway, as The Coumbian suggested, you might want to talk to your doctor about taking Robinul or Ditropan to deal with the sweating brought on by the hormone treatment.

Let us know how things progress and post any questions you might still have.
