I have been meaning to put this post up for awhile now...but just now finding the time.
Ok, if you check my previous posts on this site, you will some extremely negative thoughts from me right after I had the surgery done here in San Diego.
I don't even like to think about the pain and discomfort I was in immedietely following the surgery (collapsed lung, servere tightness in chest, and breathing issues, compensatory sweating on legs and butt, doctor was a complete jerk), but now six months later.....I have NEVER been happier in my life.
I found this website only after I had the surgery and I propably would not have had the ETS done if I read the horror stories beforehand. Regardless, I had it done and I thought I was going to be in for hell...
After reading the horror stories, I tried to block it out of my head and told myself I was not going to let this bother me. I have remained extremely positive about everything and I really feel better than I ever have in my entire life. I am a runner and I lift weights, I am in very good shape.... I am back to my normal workout routine and I feel like I am in the best shape ever. I was getting a tingling sensation in my chest when I first started running again, but not anymore.
As you probably know, San Diego has great weather.... In August, I would sweat through my work pants on my legs, but now that it has cooled off a little bit, I never have any CS issues. My hands are always very dry and my armpits are NEVER sweaty like before. I ordered a ton of "no crack hand cream" from the Duluth Trading Company (online) and I use it a few times a day so my hands are not too dry.
As with most things in life, I have decided to stay positive about all of this and I never let it get me down......even though I know I could face the side effects some day. My mental state has really helped me and staying positive goes a VERY long way in my book.
For those that are suffering the side effects, I truly hope the best for you. I can honestly say that I am SOOOO very happy that I had this done and it really has changed my life. I no longer have to worry about shaking my clients' hand with a sweaty palm or having the embarrassing underarm pit sweat. My head does not bead up with sweat.....and the guys I train with always wonder why I am no longer a sweaty mess....and I have told a few what I had done, but I prefer to keep it private with most.
I will try to chime in when I can, but the only real side effect i feel right now is a warming sensation when I eat spicy food....and I am not even sure that is related to all of this.
I have thought about writing my surgeon a nice letter, but since he was such a complete ass when he came to visit me in the hospital, I will probably hold off on doing that for awhile.
I wish you all the best!
